Section Seminar History

     The "section seminar" is a fall gathering of the lodges.  The Council of Chiefs meets all day Saturday and the other members of the lodges have seminars on Indian culture and other matters relating to the Order of the Arrow.  It is my understanding that it is unique to S4 (now S4S) and one other section in the country. 

     In 2001 the section seminar was held at Camp Osborn (Immokalee Lodge 353) for the newly reformed and divided S4 section.  In 2001 S4 was enlarged to include southern Alabama and west Florida and divided into south and north subsections.  At that time Echeconnee 358 and Tomo Chi Chi 119 lodges were reassigned from S4 to other sections.  The 2001 Section Seminar at Camp Osborn was the only section seminar ever held for all of S4 (both north and south).  All 15 lodges of the new S4 and Echeconnee 358 and Tomo Chi Chi 119 (for a total of 17 lodges) were invited to attend.  Consequently it was called the 'Great' S4 Section Seminar.  S4S continues to hold fall seminars while S4N did not adopt the practice.  

     Immokalee Lodge was assigned to S4 in 1992 and then assigned to S4N in the 2001 split of the newly reformed S4; therefore, the patch history of the section seminars for Immokalee Lodge starts in 1992 and stops in 2001.  It appears that the 1992-1993 change from SE-4 to S4 occurred effective July 1st, 1992 which would be after the 1992 conclave.  Immokalee attended the 1992 SE-4 conclave in April and then the new S4 section seminar / council of chiefs in November of 1992.   This is consistent with the 2001 change from S4 to S4N which occurred effective July 1st, 2001 for Order of the Arrow purposes.  

     In July of 2008, Lodges were again realigned and Immokalee Lodge returned the new S4.  The new S4 was the same S4 was had existed in the 1990s except that Georgia Lodges 119 and 358 were not included.  The first function was the Section Seminar in the fall of 2008, but no Immokalee members attended the event.
